Terms of Service

By creating an account, registering a pet, scanning a smart tag, submitting a sighting, or otherwise using MissingPets (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the Service. We may update these terms from time to time — see Section 8 below for how that works.

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to create an account. If you're using the Service on behalf of a shelter, veterinary clinic, or other organization, you're confirming you have the authority to accept these terms on that organization's behalf.

The core owner and finder features described on this site — smart tag profiles, the finder contact flow, and sighting reports — are provided free of charge, as will be any future features (like automated ad broadcasts or shelter cross-referencing) once they ship. We don't charge owners to register a pet, and we don't charge finders to report one.

MissingPets is a tool, not a guarantee. We help move information faster — connecting a finder to an owner, or a shelter intake to an active lost report — but we cannot promise that any specific pet will be found, returned, or reunited with its owner. Recovery depends on many factors outside our control, including the actions of finders, shelters, and third parties, and circumstances we have no visibility into.

We may add, change, or discontinue features of the Service at any time. We'll try to give reasonable notice for changes that materially affect how you use it, but we can't always guarantee advance notice.

When you create an account or register a pet, you agree to provide accurate, current information — including contact details, pet descriptions, and last-known-location data for lost reports. Inaccurate information doesn't just violate these terms, it actively undermines the purpose of the Service: getting a pet home. If your contact information changes, please update it promptly.

You're responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and for any activity that happens under your account. Let us know right away if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

You retain ownership of the photos, descriptions, and other content you upload — your pet's photo is yours. By uploading content to MissingPets, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, display, and distribute that content solely as needed to operate the Service. In practice, that means things like showing your pet's photo on its public smart tag page, including it in a generated lost-pet flier, or using it in a localized ad broadcast you've requested.

You're responsible for making sure you have the right to upload the content you submit, and that it doesn't infringe on anyone else's rights.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you've violated these terms — particularly the prohibitions on fraud, extortion, and harassment described in Section 5. We may also remove content that violates these terms or applicable law.

You can stop using the Service and request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle your data after an account is closed.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any AI match, sighting, or shelter cross-reference will be accurate.

MissingPets facilitates contact between owners, finders, and shelters — we are not a party to any interaction that happens between them. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for the conduct of any other user, including a finder or owner who misrepresents themselves, fails to follow through, or attempts to defraud another party. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

We may update these terms as the Service evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms. If you disagree with a change, your recourse is to stop using the Service and close your account.

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which MissingPets operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
